Eidetic is a film created and conceptualized by Andrew Roehm. Its focus is to tap into the recesses of one’s psychological regeneration. Eidetic’s clearest meaning as a film is in association with eidetic/photographic memory. This film’s reason for existence is for the imaginative person. It serves as a delightful recollection of the past that is meant to be shown to the world. Although, captured and birthed through cameras, the idea is that an eidetic memory is one that is remembered and re-creatable to the most minute detail from one’s mind. For this particular film my cameras were my technological mind’s eye. Eidetic was filmed over the past two and half years in various states throughout the southern United States. This is my first and most likely my only film.
The film itself sort of began unknowingly. As filming and shooting for various wake medias was being conducting large quantities of footage were beginning to accumulate. Once the idea of a film came to mind filming became more strategic and busy. Fortunately for me I was given the opportunity to hang with some of the greatest guys during the process of filming Eidetic. The tricks that went down for this film were incredible. I doubted my will power to be able to hold on to these clips for as long as I did. It is such an experience to work with people as consistent and passionate about wakeskating as I am. People like David Roehm, Collin Gee, Andrew Fortenberry, Blake Steele, Travis Belsito Josh Norman, and Bret Little give you a level of consistency and professionalism that makes the whole experience of filming inexplicably smoother.
Eidetic was a pleasurable and relaxing filming process. Reason being I had a grand amount of help. Although I go in extensive detail in the credits of the film, stating who I give my thanks to, naming them here again still does not nearly do their actions enough justice. Thank you to Evan Molina, David Roehm, Tad Mathews, Collin Gee, Mitchell Cobb, Bret Little, Travis Belsito, Andrew Fortenberry, Blake Steele, Josh Norman, and my parents. These outwardly presented memories could not be regenerated without you all’s critical contributions. This film was created to genuinely present hard working artists’ talents to the public that obviously deserve the attention.
Sick nasty, great work kid. Got me soo stoked!!
Such a solid crew!!!!!
Righteous Flick!
Love this video! great work Kid.
Pumped kid! The vid came out really sick
Hell ya Kid! Congrats on finishing and it turn out awesome.

Ne puero gladium
sooo sick , good job man. riding was killer
spill it tad! we want to know! haha
Good work, Andrew. Who cares if it’s not as good as more than machines… anyone who has enjoyed being on a wakeskate can appreciate the time and effort put into a project like this. Who can complain about a free video to get you through the winter months?
Osama, here’s a few possible solutions for your problem:
1. Quit wakeskating (which would eliminate your need to check this terrible website)
2. Shut up and start your own website
3. God forbid, submit better content to this already established, excellent website.
4. Grow up.
such a sick video! thanks for giving us something to watch during the cold winter months! and tad, wesubsist is apart of my daily routine. thanks.
now I’m depressed. wesubsist has never been better! Keep up the amazing work everyone!
Photos look sick! Is it possible to download and burn to a disc like aquafrolics?
It will be downloadable soon enough, for now you can only watch it here on the sub.
KIDDO, very sick! Great vid to get everyone pumped! Keep up the stoke
Dirt Slide back big was dirty! There isn’t much better than wakeskating with your brother and your homies. Keep having fun guys.
I will also say though, that I feel we are getting to a point in wakeskatings evolution when flat water tricks, re-entry tricks, inside out and lip tricks by themselves are getting boring to watch. I am the kind of guy that often times looks to skateboarding to see how they do things, and you definitely never see guys putting flat ground tricks in a video part unless it is in a line, and even then it wouldn’t be a string of flat ground tricks alone, there would at least be a ledge trick or something creative. Now I know there will be the argument that wakeskating isn’t skateboarding, and I am not trying to say it is, but what I am saying, is they have figured out how to make it interesting to watch time and time again with the same tricks over and over(with some new variations no doubt). I also am not trying to sit here and hate so don’t take it that way, because I think that all the dudes in this video are all a lot better than me, but I think video’s like this don’t necessarily make outsiders super excited about watching wakeskate videos because it all looks the same. Isn’t that what happened to wakeboarding?
I could tell you the obvious excuses I have in response to the lack of winching in Eidetic (which is what I am assuming you are driving at as far as what attributes the described “boring” factor of the video). I could say that we have had a drought for well over a year in Texas and it has made our possibilities scarce for winching, or I could also say that getting a group together with conflicting schedules to go hit gaps with a functioning winch was difficult, but I’m not. I am going to simply say I knowingly didn’t try to my fullest to get winch footage. Ultimately, because it wasn’t my focus, I personally enjoy watching ski sets more than anything else as far as wakeskating. Although this film was made for the entertainment of the wakeskating community it was also to self-represent what I want to see from wakeskating, and what I enjoy cataloging. Many people see differently with me on that, but it isn’t of my concern. My concern is to release a film that I enjoyed making, first, and feel others will enjoy watching second. And hopefully they will understand why I feel it is at its best from that angle.
One big thing I grow tired of when watching skateboarding (although its not always the case), is the segmented feel of clips in a section of a film or the hectic cluster of tricks in most skateboard internet videos. Wakeskating has an obvious clash in character from skateboarding, for it is naturally fluid and smooth seeing as all of it revolves around the water. I will always try my best to emphasize that in my videos and show its uniqueness, and that originality is best represented behind the ski utilizing flat water, in my eyes. If you can recall a certain instant in the film, in the middle of Josh and Blake’s part where the song comes to a calm, the mood of the entire film slows and Josh is just cruising and enjoy the water. That is arguably my favourite part of Eidetic. I feel more connected to the video and can understand wakeskating more in those moments of clarity than any other time. The moments when someone is just relaxing and enjoying themselves on the water. I think moments like that will draw people into the sport just as well, and more sincerely, than that of showing the similarities to a familiar sport. The fact that it can bring that much joy to someone who is just enjoying themselves, rather than showing how similar we can make it look like an already established action sport. That will in my opinion will only lead people to associate wakeskating as being skateboarding “adapted to the water.” Where I would like wakeskating to be thought of as an “individual.”
So to sum up in the best way I can, is I don’t find any section of my film boring or unattractive to the outside crowd, and I am partially apologetic that it had that effect on you, but I chose to represent my film from a certain angle I enjoy seeing it from most.
I am glad you enjoyed it though, and have a happy holiday!
I couldn’t have asked for a better response. It was honest, and well constructed. You made me realize that I was coming into this with a confirmation bias. I like those aspects of skateboarding videos, so it’s obviously a matter of opinion. The other thing that I was thinking while writing earlier was that if there is anyone out there that likes to watch wakeskating this way, then I can make no objection to the video style. I agree with you as well that wakeskating is a much calmer activity than skateboarding and it is cool that you made an effort to show it that way. I think that honestly as a whole, the film is most certainly a piece of art and you did a very nice job, but I will be honest and say that about 10 minutes in I stopped watching it because of the reasons I stated above. However I came back about half an hour later and watched the rest, and definitely really enjoyed it. I also know where you are coming from about the challenges of trying to get out and winch. I lived in Alabama for two years completely surrounded by amazing spots and I think I winched maybe like five times. Shit sucks. Either way, thanks for responding man, good to hear back directly from the source.
Nice work Andrew. You stoked my fire on a cold winter day. TX and LA represent! Cheers Sub and friends.
This is a great video! I love the SUB and the wakeskate community! We can put all of our minds together and make this sport even better than it already is.
great job dudes! the sub kills it!
Sick. So glad we have the sub!!!
The sub is the shit, good riding fellas. Progession is an art in itself. So lets put forth extra passion like these guys who dont get reconized because of how small this industy is. Collin G ur the man! Thanks tad and all u guys who make it still a desire and crave to get out there and push this epic fun sport.
Job well done Kid, awesome stuff from everyone, and thanks Tad for putting this on the Sub!
The cloud at the top looks like Africa.
Killer video kid.

Very well done, Andrew! Being someone who doesn’t WALK too well, this is most impressive but I believe your gift is through the eye of the camera. Don’t let this be your last one. Live large and dream big!
This is a rad film!!! Is there any place to download the film so I can have some buddies over for a party and watch it while we dream of warm weather again? (coming from outside chicago, Fox River).
